A demonstration of the Waves J37 is a plug-in emulation of the Studer J37 analogue tape recorder from the 1960s, based on an example owned by Abbey Road Studios in London. Check out the Audio Masterclass Music Production and Sound Engineering Course at bit.ly/3W3tpKo
What you should expect from analog tape is a certain amount of warmth, or you might prefer to call it distortion. Also there will be a slightly uneven frequency response, wow and flutter, noise, and a spreading out of frequencies caused by scrape flutter. It all adds a certain richness and smoothness to the sound. In this demonstration I'm going to set the wow and flutter to their minimum values. I'll set a moderate recording level, and test the three types of tape that the plug-in emulates.
