Which came first - Pirates of the Caribbean, or Gladiator?

From one of our website visitors...

This isn't really a question, but an FYI. I have a musical ear and loved the James Bond article. It got me thinking about how often there is a stepwise progression regarding music and the final product.

Experience has taught me NEVER to throw away a musical idea. It can later morph into something phenomenal with the right inspiration.

Case in point: Go to 5:37 - a little past the middle. Sounds familiar?

Now this at 2:21...

And last, the classic up tempo modded version..

Cheers,

Roland

@Boifeicasempre:  I don't know why they always put emperor Commodus has the last emperor, in movies, like if it was a change back to the old republic. It never happened, Commodus got killed, and they elected another emperor to succed him, Septimius Severus, who ruled 18 years until his death. Roman empire never ceased to have emperors until its fall in 476 (at the West), and 1453 (at its eastern part). They did it at the 60's movie "The fall of the Roman empire", with Christopher Plummer doing Commodus, and they did it in this movie. By the way, Commodus is always pictured has a psicopatic lunatic, like Nero, and he wasn't, yes he was mad but he wasn't psico, he was just an incompetent emperor. In this movie they put him killing his father to be emperor, because his father will not appoint him has his successor. In realityCommodus never wanted to be emperor, it was Marcus Aurelius who wanted his son to be his sucessor, and the senate who pressed him to be emperor, he didn't want it because he knew he had no competence to be emperor. Hollywood always being inacurate.

@henriducard2946 replies to @Boifeicasempre: Commodus fits well into the story, because of his infamous gladiator endeavors so they borrowed him and his father the wise Marcus Aurelius. It's not supposed to be a documentary.

Hans Zimmer's signature is written in all of his music. Lol

@KONNEENNMANOFFERMOY:  ..the music complements the film, that's as it should be.A great movie with a great musical score. Thanks for sharing.

@TheDirtysouthfan:  A couple things bothered me about the movie, but the worst one is what bothers me about nearly all media portrayals of Rome namely the British accents. They should at least be speaking with Italian accents, the ancestors of the modern British at the time were the enemies of Rome and hell they were killing them in the beginning. It's a remnant of the olden days of theater. In Shakespeare's time when they performed Caesar they would not dress up in clothes that Romans would wear but rather what contemporary British aristocrats would wear. The actor playing Caeser would resemble Henry the 8th more than he would Caeser. As people became educated they knew that wasn't true but the accents remain. It just makes me feel like the British are trying to claim some ancestry from the Romans. To me it's stupid, it's like having a WWII film and having Churchill speak in a German accent.

@unlogik1 replies to @TheDirtysouthfan: its not a documentary, so go look for you historical correctness somewhere else

@antred11 replies to @TheDirtysouthfan: Nonsense. Italian accents would have been the height of ridiculousness. A relatively neutral British accent is definitely the most sensible choice, unless they were going to outright have all the dialog in Latin ... but then few of us would be able to understand anything without subtitles.

@SkipperPlaysTW replies to @TheDirtysouthfan: The only reason British (Southern English to be precise) accents play in the majority of historical contextual films is purely because it is considered to be a neutral accent compared to the rest of the English speaking world (this can of course be debated but it is the most widely accepted accent in the language as neutral) and thus it makes it easier to understand what the people are saying to an English speaking audience.

@SkipperPlaysTW replies to @TheDirtysouthfan: Oh and another point you make: "the ancestors of the modern British at the time" that in itself shows the naivety of your comment. Modern British citizens range from a whole variety of ethnicity and background. Some people living in Britain today have ancestors who trace back to the Romans, others the Saxons (not from Britain until the dark ages) and Normans (who were vikings beforehand) and since then large groups of people have migrated in over the years. In fact, in England at least, a very, very, very small percentage of people hail ancestry to the Iceni, Celts, Druids or Gallic tribes.

@cyqry replies to @TheDirtysouthfan: SkipperPlaysTW I think by "modern British at the time", he meant the Britons at the time the movie is set. Using the word "modern" was a bad choice. That said, the Britons of the time would have had the same accent that Modern Britons have, they'd be closer to the Germanic tribes you heard in the very beginning of the film... both in accent and behaviour.

You're right though, every "British" person can trace their lineage back to tonnes of different nations, its also interesting to note that this is how the "English" language was formed as well. In chronological order, it would probably be something along the lines of:
-Celts (our base)
-Romans (conquest and occupation)
-Celts/Romans would interbreed for some time, creating a Celt-Roman crossbreed.
-Saxons and Vikings (Germans and Scandanavians respectively) would invade from both the South/East and North at around the same time (hence the diversity between North/South cultures/languages).
-Then 1066 we would gain our French influences. The Normans would invade from the south, further dividing the cultures. You could say that these were Roman-based but centuries have passed and they've developed their own culture and language.

Our culture is literally just a giant mixing pot of Latins, Germans, Scandanavians, Celts and Frenchmen.
