Universal Audio Debuts LA-610 Tube Recording Channel

Universal Audio announced the new LA-610 Classic Tube Recording Channel featuring the 610 mic-pre and EQ section combined with a LA-2A style T4 opto-compressor. The LA-610 will have a MSRP of US$1795.

"The electro-optical detector or 'T4 cell' as its commonly known, is the very heart and soul of both the LA-610's compressor and the unrivalled king of opto-compression; our Teletronix LA-2A. The unique combination of electroluminescent panel and custom-manufactured photo-resistors inside the T4 cell are the crucial circuit components that gives both these compressors their program-dependent behavior and signature sound.," said Joe Bryan, VP of Engineering for Universal Audio. " To compliment this, we selected three 12AX7A's, a single 6072A and a single 6AQ5 tube for amplifier warmth and overall tonal balance"

LA-610 Key Features:

  • MT Putnam 610 tube mic-pre/EQ
  • T4 opto-compressor module (Teletronix LA-2A-style)
  • Complete vintage channel-strip
  • Mic-pre with variable impedance switching, and Instrument DI with tone "color" and "warmth" make for a perfect front end for DAW's
  • Hand-assembled in the USA.

"To be clear, the compressor section of the LA-610 is not an exacting clone like our Teletronix LA-2A but through innovative design engineering, tube choice and extensive listening tests, we achieved our goals of (i) capturing the essential sonic signature of the LA-2A, (ii) maintaining UA's high standards of build and sonic quality and (iii) hitting an aggressive price point within reachof the serious Project Studio" said Mike Barnes, UA's Director of Marketing.

The LA-610 was designed in association with original UREI analog design engineer, Dennis Fink who previously worked on many classic UA audio products under the direction of company founder, Bill Putnam Sr.
