@Caueborgia:  I like to use this effect to fine tune my guitar, it does this kind of effect when playing the same note in different string at the same time

@christopherward5065:  It shouldn’t make too much difference. I was expecting a slight phase shift but the wave compression and extension compared to the velocity of the sound wouldn’t be significant enough to be noticed as a Doppler shift. I thought you were going to recreate it with microphones and a sound source. It would be good to know how significant that movement was.

@Dobiwankenobiwan:  I didn’t think I’d be able to hear the difference between 1KH & 1.003KH. Wow. Very interesting.

@AudioAssassin:  Humour is not your forte, dude. I recommend leaving the attempted jokes out of your future videos.

I love your videos but the attempt at humour is nothing more than a waste of time. Your videos would be shorter without it, which of course is a good thing these days.

@AudioMasterclass replies to @AudioAssassin: Oh dear, time for me to leave YouTube I guess. Wait… My 72,000 subscribers say differently. Go away and don’t come back.

@sammoxford:  Fortunately I was able to distract myself by wondering what percentage of viewers use a mirror to gaze at their naval.

@AudioMasterclass replies to @sammoxford: Perhaps you should. If you ever get an infection there you’ll wish you were more diligent.

@mikrophonie5633:  You're the same David Mellor who worked with Karl Blake, Danielle Dax, and other artists huh? I used to have the Evil Twin cd and your Days of the Moon cd. Good stuff.

@AudioMasterclass replies to @mikrophonie5633: What do you mean you, “used to have” my CDs?

@mikrophonie5633 replies to @mikrophonie5633: @AudioMasterclass Sold most of my World Serpent-related and neo-folk CDs. Don't listen to that stuff much anymore. By the way, the less said about a certain collaborator of yours (Tony Wakeford), the better. Karl Blake had some, uh...interesting things to say about him.

@paulfriedman4767:  Tee Hee. That was very entertaining. Especially the response to Phil.

@julianmorrisco:  Geoff! Your new friend is very direct! Not like this channel at all, which is usually attentive and polite, whilst taking massive amounts of the piss. Sometimes it’s refreshing to hear what people, even artificial people, really think 😁

@artysanmobile:  I appreciated the healthy debate at the end of your video.

@bottomendbliss:  If the mic is wobbling at 1m per second then the truck should drive by in a minute and a half.

@bottomendbliss:  Classical is ok but lots of low brow people stuck around just to hear you speak Phil.

@bengeorgeschannel6568:  I'm so glad that "Now That's What I Call Unboxing Music" is still going to be released. Time to recap the 303 with platinum and rare earth filters, I think. I enjoyed today's maths lesson but was concerned that the audio for Phil's discourse sounded as though it had been through a bitslicer at the end of the video. I hope he recovers soon!

@AudioMasterclass replies to @bengeorgeschannel6568: a) Not too long now, b) I had one. Had to replace the power transistors, c) Don’t rely on my maths, d) Phil’s OK. He has a wife to advise him.

@VinnieLeeStudio:  FM FTW!

@marxman00 replies to @VinnieLeeStudio: Giving it the Feargal (Sharkey)!

@thexfile.:  Two Tubas with produce a third tone.

@marxman00 replies to @thexfile.: and therefore be six times more annoying

@Warpedsmac:  Classical music, when played through ceiling mounted speakers in shopping centres, also frightens away loitering teenagers and potential vandals from foyers and common areas, both inside and outside.

@AudioMasterclass replies to @Warpedsmac: This is why I leave my radio on BBC Radio 3 when I go out. Burglars don’t like it. I actually do that.

@rhodaborrocks1654:  I'm informed that a wobble microphone was used to record the guitar on Jethro Tull's "A New Day Yesterday" on their "Stand Up" album, they rotated the microphone on the cable to create a sort of Leslie cabinet effect.

@AudioMasterclass replies to @rhodaborrocks1654: I believe that. I have some audio examples that I might present in a future video.

@BobGeogeo:  Audio Phil: It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing.

@AudioMasterclass replies to @BobGeogeo: It’s the double pendulum that does it.

@mal2ksc:  It's not a wobbly mic, it's the ancestor of the Leslie cabinet! Feature, not bug. 😂

@AudioMasterclass replies to @mal2ksc: You are correct. Now do the math.

@davidhosmer1424:  I did /do run a simple sound system for community dance (contra, square, English Country Dance). This places me in the NERD world of audio. Yes, it is very hard to go to a concert (non classical) and not mix the sound in my head [more of that, less of this, fatten the base, too tubby base]. The last live concert at a bar was just TOO PAINFULLY LOUD to be endured. LOUD DOESN"T MAKE IT GOOD!!!. At 73 and impaired hearing I can't loose more. At the symphony I look for the various hanging mics and configurations. This is the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, PSO, Too good of a performance to waste my attention and not just enjoy the music. Thanks take care

@roscoecoltrane6867:  Well, that’s a first. I’ve just watched a YT video about wobbly mics. (and loved it). Truly, the online world can deliver up anything!

@AudioMasterclass replies to @roscoecoltrane6867: And I’ve hardly even started.

@garymalone547:  Weak minded, but still here.

@AudioMasterclass replies to @garymalone547: You underestimate.

@garymalone547 replies to @garymalone547: @AudioMasterclass yeah I didn't make it through lol.

@hansfijlstra5932:  Hahaha, Phil made me spit out my delicious diner meal! Wow, what a great (‘AI’-)performance!

@bobkitchin8346:  I enjoy your comments. I think your 2 tone experiment is an apt one. If you can excuse me, I need to nit pick a little bit. Your vm calculation is in m*radian/sec, while the f' max and min are in Hz (1/sec). I think you need to drop the 2pi from your vm calculation (=0.150 m/sec). So f' max = 1000.43Hz and f'min = 999.56Hz .

@AudioMasterclass replies to @bobkitchin8346: I’ll pass your comments on to ChatGPT which might want to have a word with you come the AI apocalypse.

@bobkitchin8346 replies to @bobkitchin8346: @AudioMasterclass On second thought, the beating of 2 tones may not be very accurate. At no time, do the 2 tones ever occur at the same time, and cannot add or subtract from each other. The f'max tone only occurs while the mic is traveling toward the source, and the f'min tone only occurs while the mic is traveling away from the source. Maybe another crude 0th order simulation is to generate 2 repetitive notes at a 10Hz rate. The f'max note lasts for 50msec and the f'min note lasts for another 50msec. In the 2 mic case, one would need two 2 note generators. One could then play around with the delays between the notes, with one generator simulating the movement toward the source, and the other moving away. And if one wants to get crazy, one can play around with the phasing of the tones themselves, simulating the delays between the mic placements.

@bobkitchin8346 replies to @bobkitchin8346: @AudioMasterclass I'm sure your right, Artificial Stupidity will kill us all.

@EricIolo:  Total blooody rubbish coming out of this channel lately! Nobody cares !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@AudioMasterclass replies to @EricIolo: I therefore suggest you don’t watch it. That should work well for both of us.

@EricIolo replies to @EricIolo: @AudioMasterclass enough of your drivel - boring and weired!

@AudioMasterclass replies to @EricIolo: Thank you for your appreciation. But seriously, if you don't like my work then just don't watch it.

@frogandspanner:  In the days when a large portion of my income went to the CBSO there was a guest conductrix who seemed to think that conducting should be part ballet. Her vigorous performances made the rostrum vibrate. I'd have preferred Rattle on the podium rather than a rattle in the podium.

@AudioMasterclass replies to @frogandspanner: In my humble opinion the only choreography should be the orchestra dancing to the movement of the tip of the baton.

@artysanmobile replies to @frogandspanner: I have a cartoon you’d love. A wildly gesticulating conductor is stopped by a violin soloist who says “I’m right here.”

@frogandspanner:  1:03 We are eyebrow friends: mine are the same colour as yours.

@marxman00:  close miking an orchestra is crushing every instrument into the time space between your speakers ..this never happens in reality ,every sound is delayed by its distance from the listener . this is why you have a conductor who uses the "speed of sight" to syncronise individual musicians because they have no idea what the rest are doing or sounding like in the distance. the only exact recording method is dummy head stereo ( being the conductors ears ) otherwise you double the time error that the conductor already corrected.. BUT ..the mush of reverberance of the building (if its in one) does sqish all the error into a listable experience ... after all ,the orchestra plays the room with their instruments and also the audience ears

@AudioMasterclass replies to @marxman00: I often suspect that the purpose of the conductor is so that the musicians don’t have to listen to each other.

@marxman00 replies to @marxman00: @AudioMasterclass Sitting in front of the trombone will takes yer hat off !

@AudioMasterclass replies to @marxman00: I’ve done that. Hairline is evidence.

@julianmorrisco replies to @marxman00: I used to prefer spaced pairs or Blümlein for orchestral stuff but I have done close miking using measured delays. This was back when a TC Electronic 2290 was new, as was digital multitrack so I had to make the calculations (with an actual calculator!) and then planned to bounce each track individually through the delay, only for the tape-op to point out that the Mitsubishi X-32 could have a few milliseconds delay on each track if you wanted anyway.! So that’s what I did. Only tape-ops had time to read manuals while they waited for some instruction. Why wasn’t the tape-op operating the tape machine? Well, many of us liked to do that ourselves and the remotes were pretty good by the late 80s so a tape-op would often be on standby for much of the session. Anyway. It did make a difference to the final stereo image but not a huge one once the drums, bass etc were in the mix :D
I have no idea if that’s normal, I worked in popular music so I didn’t exactly specialise in orchestras. I imagine it might make more of a difference if the orchestra was your only instrument. We didn’t have to internet to research techniques so we either learned from the older people or experimented, as in this case.

@Douglas_Blake_579:  😳😳 Love the Ending! 😳😳

@graememorrison333:  Slightly serious question alert. How much amplification is used in a Proms concert? Was there for the Mahler 1 last weekend and mentioned that there were speakers at 'mushroom' level near the roof and whatnot (and that the RAH had a serious amp revamp in 2019), but my oldskool classical music buff chum claimed that all (classical) concerts there were purely acoustic.

@AudioMasterclass replies to @graememorrison333: It is a serious question. I don’t have insider knowledge of the Proms but I’ve done my fair share of ‘reinforcing’ what is normally expected to be purely acoustic music so I can confirm that it is done. Anyone who does have insider knowledge, tell all here.

@BruceGrembowski:  Bach, Beethoven, Berlioz, Beatles, Brubek, (Jeff) Beck, Black Sabbath, Boston, and Basia (to name a few). I love all the Bs!

@hansfijlstra5932 replies to @BruceGrembowski: Absolutely! I am happy to say that I also love the rest of the alphabet and music styles. Music is heaven as Pythagoras already predicted 😉

@MiguelCruz-cm1fe:  Great vibrato.

@thomaslutro5560 replies to @MiguelCruz-cm1fe: Actually, tremolo, as opposed to the tremolo system on a guitar, which is a vibrato. 🙂

Edit: Of course referring to the only one I actually heard the summed 100Hz+1003Hz (on my laptop speakers)...

@MiguelCruz-cm1fe replies to @MiguelCruz-cm1fe: @thomaslutro5560 yep, but the wobling mic alone.

@peters7949:  Love Unity

@marxman00:  What was that about Viledins ! The time interferance of all those open mics would make this the least of your worries..Bung the whole lot through a Lesley cab I say .. Phil RULES !

@phrtao:  Unity ! my kind of girl

@davebullard:  As a classical music lover, I can't help but raise my eyebrows when someone complains about modern classical music..... The wobbly mic would have driven me bonkers too.
