Slate Digital introduces Smoothinator
Slate Digital Introduces Smoothinator
SMOOTHINATOR.
Everyone loves brittle, cold, harsh tracks.
There’s nothing better than listening to a vocal that has so much fizzy overtones that it rips into your eardrums like a razor blade.
However, if you are some kind of odd duck that does NOT enjoy harsh tracks, I have good news for you.
Smoothinator is a new featured plugin preset for the Kilohearts Multipass that will make your tracks smooth and silky just like Mom used to make them. And it is super easy to use!
Check out the video where I walk you through this fantastic new processor.
Smoothinator can be found in the Slate Sigital preset folder of the Kilohearts “Multipass” custom multiband plugin.

@vinylmastersgr222: Is it vsti?I tried to download a package but this wasn't in it and vsti don't work in my reaper
@michaellawless8647: I think this is going to be a Lifesaver for me! 👍
@therealrussellsmyth: How does this compare to Soothe 2? Anyone have any insights
@leekwesi replies to @therealrussellsmyth: Soothe is a little more surgical cause it's finding trouble resonances in your tracks and suppressing them in realtime so it only processes when needed. the smoothinator preset is more of a multiband compressor/transient shaper where it compresses and smooths the attack from 1.75-4.7k and compresses everything above 4.7k and you control the mix and a couple other macros. I'd say that Soothe 2 is kind of one of a kind still but so is multi-pass so it's not really a replacement for soothe 2 but it's still an amazing plugin; I use both really consistently.
@saardean4481 replies to @therealrussellsmyth: @leekwesi nope. i own soothe 2 but its not alone anymore. Dseq, Mspectraldynamics come into mind
@robertsimpson5801: A Dodge Stratus!?!?! You are a MONSTER.
@DrKaoliN: I was searching for a plugin like this for a long time. I like that it effectively solves a real problem - sound harshness.
@crystalclearmedia3554: not bad
@maxfieldstanton5411: I tried this for an acoustic guitar track that was a bit too harsh and it really did work. Thanks!
@guitarheadhunt: Crazy thing is this vocal was supposedly originally recorded with the vms. This is the same vocal from the song that Slate sent out highlighting the Slate VMS 1 and VMS 2. I have the multi track session on my computer but I do not remember the vocal sounding that harsh. I need to pull the session up and check it out.
@SlateDigitalTV replies to @guitarheadhunt: guitarheadhunt Did you watch the video? I ran it through an EQ with the treble cranked all the way. That was not a joke!
@gtbzadar replies to @guitarheadhunt: Man, check the start of the video, man says that everything is crancked up to be harsh! You didn’t saw that Ford!!!
@sirvaant: Was wondering if you were ever going to add something to the bundle that will help with clicks and pops and cracks in the vocals to clean that stuff up
@jiroe9294: Who records vocals that harsh 😂? Other than that, it does help a lot. I would like to hear it with a cheap condenser mic like a rode and a cheap preamp and see if it helps the high end which is usually the issue in those chains.
@Bowlman84 replies to @jiroe9294: My thoughts exactly. Plus my extra harsh voice.
@chazmartin5725 replies to @jiroe9294: Who records vocals that harsh? Oh man, with some of the cracked software/$80 mic crowd, way too many people.
@HAJJ101 replies to @jiroe9294: @chazmartin5725 cracked software has nothing to do with it
@jordanbarney8629 replies to @jiroe9294: He made it that harsh on purpose to highlight how effective this trick is
@jiroe9294 replies to @jiroe9294: @jordanbarney8629 that's kinda obvious... the question is why did he make it this harsh? what situation is he trying to emulate? like.. who decides to record vocals and achieves this sound?
@monnecka: Can you just buy this separately or do you need to have a subscription etc?
@pestilencekills replies to @monnecka: Someone's new here
@ReeseWitherknife replies to @monnecka: Everything is sold separately as well. This one might need to be bought directly from Kilohearts. But you'll miss all the Slate presets. Just check the slate website and the Kilohearts websites, I guess. But I'd recommend looking into the all access pass. It's the best bang for the buck around.
@saadmuaz9170 replies to @monnecka: @ReeseWitherknife The smoothinator is not sold at the kilohearts website. all the kilohearts plugins are not sold separately at the slate digital website. this is expected. we users who buy plugins continue to be ignored.
@jaeheda1 replies to @monnecka: @saadmuaz9170 subscription is the future just like mp3 is over vinyl. You have to follow the change to keep up or eventually get left behind.
@saadmuaz9170 replies to @monnecka: @jaeheda1 I guess you're right..there's always the possibility of the company winding-up in which case the perpetual license holders can still use the plugins
@kolonkos1: WHAT ABOUT MASTERING?
@GodfreyOkafor: The kilo hearts is the only plugins I didn’t download, instant regret bout to download it right now.
@MrSMFC1877: Best plugins on the market, best value too
@riccardoscire: FIRST!!!!!!11111111!!!!!!11111111111111
@midnightmix2692: this would be great on cabs and heavy distortion!
