Prolific producer Demacio 'Demo' Castellon installs Matrix in personal studio

Solid State Logic, the world's leading manufacturer of analogue and digital audio consoles, is pleased to announce that Demacio "Demo' Castellon, part of prolific production team The Demolition Crew, recently took delivery of a Solid State Logic Matrix mixing console as the new centerpiece of his Ontario, Canada-based studio.

Demo is an established star on the Hip Hop, Urban and R&B scenes, having worked extensively with Timbaland on a wide range of projects for some of the world's biggest names, including Jay-Z, Madonna, Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake…

Demo cut his teeth on larger SSL consoles – "My console of choice has always been a 9000 J. There's something about the J!" – so making the move to a smaller format console was something he never thought he'd do. But while fitting out Timbaland's high-spec bus with the best tools available for a mobile studio, Demo spent time with SSL's newest small format board…

"So I went on the bus and Anthony Fernandez (System Integrator for the Timbaland Bus project) is like, "this thing has 40 channels'… but I look at the faders… "you're telling me there's 40 but I'm only seeing 16. There's only 16 dude!" He's says no, and starts breaking it down. "It's one thing when people tell you that it's 40 on mixdown, but when you actually see where all the 40 are coming up, I was like "oh snap, this thing actually packs quite a punch.' That in combination with the X-Rack … it's phenomenal. The stuff that we've been doing out of that bus lately."

"It's funny because I never thought I'd ever be saying that about a small format console. If we tried to have this conversation even just two years ago, I would have told you its trash, don't bother, save your money, go to a studio. But for what it is now, I think it could bring people over, especially people like me that are still trying to hold on to that [old] way of making records."

"I'm happy with it… I'm really happy with it. I'm very content and very happy with the way the sound is going for me. And I still feel creative, which was something that I felt limited with before. And that's where I'm at now. So I have one at home, and I have one on Timbaland's bus. It's nice being able to plug it up and just go… it's fantastic. It deserves to have the SSL name attached to it. Just because you [SSL] guys make it, it's us, as users of your consoles, we're really the ones who dictate whether it deserves to be a part of the brand! Now that I've used it I can say that it deserves to be in the legacy that is Solid State Logic."
