The Audio Masterclass Course in Mixing (Assessed Course)

Learn how to mix professionally-produced multitrack recordings. Achieve a standard comparable to commercial releases.

The Audio Masterclass Professional Course in Mixing starts with rock drums recorded by a variety of methods from single-mic to fully-miked with overheads. From this foundation students of this course will learn how to mix a range of music from pop to pop/rock through country, jazz and full-on rock. Over the duration of the course students will work with professionally-produced multitrack recordings using the original studio session files of all of the individual instruments and vocals.

This course covers all of the processes of mixing that are in regular use in recording studio operations. The twelve modules cover preparation for mixing, resolution of recording errors and defects, equalization, compression, limiting, and harmonic enhancement of individual instruments and voices, blending of instruments and voices, equalization and optimization of the master channel. Applications include mixing of band-orientated music from light pop to heavy rock.

The course is entirely practical and is assessed solely on the learner's practical assignment work. Text and graphic support materials are provided as appropriate, and the course includes audio example files demonstrating mixing techniques.

The outcome of the course will be an enhanced level of knowledge, skills and experience in mixing techniques.
