AES international conference on music induced hearing disorders set for June 20-22 in Chicago

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) International Conference on Music Induced Hearing Disorders (MIHD) will take place this month, June 20-22, 2018, at Columbia College in downtown Chicago. The conference will feature a wide range of presentations, academic papers and panel discussions focused on the latest strategies and technologies for safer long-term hearing outcomes across the music industry. Conference registration is now open.

The conference will bring hearing health researchers and equipment manufacturers together with studio and live sound specialists from the music industry. It will highlight best practices in promoting hearing wellness among musicians, sound engineers, and concert attendees. Organizers also plan to host informal explorations of the Chicago music scene by night.

Paper co-chairs Dorte Hammershoi and Jon Boley have curated a diverse range of topics from leading hearing wellness experts from the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia. In addition, interactive panel discussions promise to bring key issues into sharp focus. The keynote speech “Music for Brain Health” will be delivered by scientist, inventor, and musician Nina Kraus, PhD, of Northwestern University.

The AES International Conference on Music Induced Hearing Disorders is organized by co-chairs Dr. Michael Santucci of Sensaphonics and past AES president Robert Schulein of ImmersAV Technology. “We’re very excited about the cutting-edge research being presented at this conference,” says Schulein. “It’s a great opportunity to raise awareness and spread the latest knowledge to music industry professionals and the audiology community.”

Overlooking Grant Park on Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago, Columbia College will host the event. The conference kicks off Wednesday evening, June 20, with a networking open house with refreshments and tours of the school’s Audio Arts & Acoustics facilities. Research papers and panel discussions will be presented Thursday and Friday.

Online registration for the Conference on Music Induced Hearing Disorders is now open, with pricing of $500 for AES members and $625 for non-AES attendees. Student registration is $300. Price includes all conference events and premium on-site catering (two light breakfasts, two lunches, one full dinner).
