"Room 237" by Private Pile
This song is from Private Pile's debut album, which is in the process of being recorded in my home studio. My role is both as a member of the band (guitarist), as well as the producer. I am a former Berklee student, and my ultimate goal in life is to be a professional record producer. This album is my (ambitious) attempt to prove to myself, and the professional music world at large, what I can do.
The band lends itself well to my style of production, since we are not afraid to experiment and try new ideas. I enjoy utilizing elements from all different genres, in order to create new sounds which help to express atmosphere. This song is easily one of our heaviest, and utilizes drop c tuning to give an over the top, almost Korny (pardon the pun), sound.
It was recorded using Logic 8 Express on a 2008 iMac. All live instruments (guitar, bass, vocals) were run through a PreSonus Bluetube preamp, and into my MOTU 828 mkII (Firewire) Audio interface. A mix of Reason 3 and Logic were used for the sequence tracks.
For this demo, we recorded scratch drums using my Yamaha DTXplorer Electronic Drum Set... but these will be replaced with acoustic drums in the near future.
All vocals were recorded using a Sure 55SH Series II Dynamic microphone (my condenser was out of commission).
If all goes as planned, the album, entitled "The Monster that Waked the Earth", will be completed by the summer.
