This tune started off as a piano and a French vocal sample that was recorded from a recording of a performance on TV. This was cut using Sound Forge then fed into Sony (formally Sonic Foundary) Acid 5. I then added bass, beats and synths to the samples to fill up the sound.
The beats were made using a variety of breaks all EQ'd to sit nicely on top of one another. Additional hits were added to the beats to bring out certain elements - for example, I layered a punchy kick over the break to make the kicks stand out over the rest of the track.
The bass, strings and other intruments were all added using various soft synths (all freeware). Reverb, distortion, renonant filters and delay effects (both Sony and Waves) were added to different elements of the track to increase the depth in the tune.
Finally I ran the mixdown through a Waves compressor and EQ and a Steinberg EQ while contantly comparing it to other drum & bass tracks to get the volume and frequency structure that would be required to make the tune stand out in a club.
