The entire drum track was created in FL Studio 7. FL Studio is fairly straightforward and the presets (EQ, comnpression, etc) are awesome.
For this particular song I recorded the entire drum track onto my Tascam 2488 portastudio. The bass and keyboard tracks were recording with samples from a Roland Fantom X and a Yamaha Motif rack played on a M-Audio 66 key controller.
The synth part was played on a Roland MC-808 groovebox. The guitar (1977 Les Paul Custom) was plugged straight into the recorder.
When recording I've learned to keep my volume down (-3 db at least) and in general I control how hard I strike the keys.
I do my mixdown with only a little eq that's available on the system and I take my files to a local studio for mastering.
