I read your article on linear faders with great interest, and I just happen to know that the person responsible for bringing them into the realm of the audio mixing console is Thomas Dowd.
He was a physicist / acoustics engineer who worked on the "Manhattan Project" (you know, the atom bomb development) and also for Atlantic records from its beginnings to his recent death.
The man was a true genius, and was considered to be one of the greatest producer / engineers ever. He also pioneered the usage of multiple microphones in the recording studio, and is responsible for many other milestone innovations in the music industry.
His legacy is well worth researching, and I know that you'd be simply amazed at his lifetime achievements. Perhaps you could do a "week with" special commentary on him in the future?
