A description of the technology and function of signal paths in mixing consoles.

The path the signal will take, whether through small fader or large fader, depends on the point you are at in the recording procedure - record, replay, overdub or mix.

A large-scale console will offer master switching so that all channels can be set instantly to the appropriate mode, and individual channels can be flipped as necessary.
