This one is called "Fifty Years". Written, arranged, recorded, mixed and produced totally by yours truly,as was the rest of the album. Mastering credit goes to Bob Katz.
I purchased the equipment in June of 2006 and after many, many nights and weekends until two and three in the morning I "finished" learning, tracking and mixing in June of 2007.
It is my very first experience and a lot of credit goes to Audio Masterclass for all the tips and articles.
All things considered, not a bad first attempt. But then, I could be deaf. It was recorded on a Roland VS2480 without any external fx or preamps. Once the tempo was established I recorded a click track and started layering stuff.
The E-piano is a patch from an old Roland HP800 straight into the 2480, as was the homemade, five string fretless bass. Recording the bass was tricky for me as I am in no wise a bass player, so keeping a consistent level required help from the onboard compressor.
That was probably the biggest challenge along with the vocals, since I hadn't sung in about thirteen years. The voices, the mandolin, tambourine and the accordion, which was played by my son Daniel, was picked up by a Neumann TLM103.
