Eddie Stevens is a musician and producer who has worked with many high profile acts, including several years with Freak Power and Norman Cook. After a long stint with Moloko, Stevens continues to work with singer Roisin Murphy and is also recording and playing live with Zero7.
"Bit by bit I've been moving from the tour bus into production," he reveals. "I've been producing bands from everywhere from Germany to Georgia – the emerging underground scenes in these countries are fascinating. The most recent release was the Slovakian star Jana Kirschner."
After discovering the SSL "sound' while mixing Moloko's album Statues on a J Series console some years ago, Stevens recently decided to invest in a Solid State Logic XLogic Alpha-Link interface.
"It was time to update my converters," he says. "So I did quite a bit of research and ended up choosing the SSL XLogic Alpha-Link. For the price it's unbeatable – in fact, I reckon they could charge twice as much and get away with it!"
Stevens has certainly been getting the most out of his new set-up, both in his own studio and while working with other peoples' set-ups.
"I sometimes use it as a mobile system," he reveals. "It's so I can retain my native Logic arrangements and plug-ins and take a mix to a studio and have 24 outputs without having to bounce down or deal with any compatibility issues."
But as well as providing all of his interfacing requirements, the sound of the XLogic Alpha-Link has won him over.
"Few people doubt that converters make a big difference to sound," he notes. "But how many people actually do the relevant comparisons? I did as much research as I could with full multitrack recordings that give you the complete picture, and as a result I'm very happy with my purchase – it's made a significant difference to my sound."
