Day After Day (Xenochron)

This one was written back when I was 21 or so and has been recorded a few times on various media. In this case, the bed tracks were recorded on a friend's mac laptop using I presume garageband in 2003 I think.

He had set up a drum loop, and I overdubbed the acoustic guitars bass and mandolin in the store he worked at before it opened...with the stores instruments...shhhhhh!!

Then I took it home, and recorded all the rest (there's easily 50 tracks on this song) with audacity...including the "xenochroned" guitar solo, lifted off the original 4 track cassette...

The original vision was actually close enough that it fit into the song, tempo wise. I found some samples of what I believed were public domain speeches etc and added them as well. the majority of the tracks went thru a cheap korg ampworks into a behringer mixer and right into the stock soundcard of the 2.7ghz emachines xp machine...

At that time, it had about a half a gig of ram in it. The machine choked up some due to all the tracks, so I submixed it in sections, then submixed those further till I got the entire thing mixed down to stereo..a lot of trial and error was involved, cuz I'm a guitar player, not an engineer. eventually, took the entire mess to my brother mark's much more professional studio, and wavelabbed it, and ultimately put it thru some kind of ultramaximizer gizmo, which seemed to give it a little more balls.

Then it was harmonically balanced, and given back to me...this is at 56 kbs so I can fit it in under 5mb...for such a low bitrate, it still sounds fairly good I hope, and is kinda long..don't say I didn't warn you. ;)

I played all the instruments other than the drums, there's many layers of acoustic, electric, slide, lead rythym and backwards guitars, guitar synths, vst softsynths (played live with a roland gr30 driving them in a program called savihost and synched up later cuz I don't know how to sequence things), bass, and mandolin.

All keyboard sounds are made with a guitar. the backwards lead guitar was lifted off the original 4 track cassette version, and that's it. probably alot of stuff wrong with it, but hey, I'm a guitar player.

Thanks for checking it out.
