This is the first time Audio Masterclass has run such a creativity competition, so I didn't know how many entries to expect, nor what the quality would be.
Well now I know that there are plenty of people out there ready to have a go, and the standard of work is amazing!
The source material wasn't promising - just a plain 1 kHz tone, and a clip of white noise. But entrants could use whatever processing they liked.
One thing is clear - you don't need to pay an arm and a leg for a synthesizer or keyboard when you can do so much with such basic sources. I could compare this with the electric guitar - the natural sound of the electric guitar is thin and plain, but look what amazing sounds it can make in the hands of a great player.
So, over to you... you can hear all of the entries here. Take time to listen - I've learned a lot about how creative boundaries can be pushed, given a little motivation.
Naturally, we'll be needing a winner, so please vote for your favorites. There are no set criteria - just vote for the tracks you like best.
If there are any manufacturers reading (I know you are, so don't pretend you're not there!), would anyone like to step forward and offer a prize? A small prize will do, and you'll get significant exposure on Audio Masterclass.
So once again, here are the tracks. Don't plan on doing anything else today - you'll find this just too damned interesting.
Comments on your favorite tracks will be very welcome indeed
THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED - Since we ran the competition, many of the composer credits have been lost. If you hear your track, let us know and we will restore the credit.
