The Audio Masterclass Professional Course in Mixing (Fully Assessed and Certificated)

Learn how to mix professionally-produced multitrack recordings. Achieve a standard comparable to commercial releases.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Audio Masterclass Professional Course in Mixing starts with rock drums recorded by a variety of methods from single-mic to fully-miked with overheads. From this foundation students of this course will learn how to mix a range of music from pop to pop/rock through country, jazz and full-on rock. Over the duration of the course students will work with professionally-produced multitrack recordings using the original studio session files of all of the individual instruments and vocals.

This course covers all of the processes of mixing that are in regular use in recording studio operations. The twelve modules cover preparation for mixing, resolution of recording errors and defects, equalization, compression, limiting, and harmonic enhancement of individual instruments and voices, blending of instruments and voices, equalization and optimization of the master channel. Applications include mixing of band-orientated music from light pop to heavy rock.

The course is entirely practical and is assessed solely on the learner's practical assignment work. Text and graphic support materials are provided as appropriate, and the course includes audio example files demonstrating mixing techniques.

The outcome of the course will be an enhanced level of knowledge, skills and experience in mixing techniques.

Flexible Learning
You can study the Audio Masterclass Professional Course in Mixing online or by downloading all of the course materials to your own computer. The course can be completed in 12 weeks, or you can spread it out over up to two years if you wish. You can work on the course at any time you choose, and take breaks whenever you like.

Instruction
Each of the twelve practical assignment modules of this course includes a complete multitrack recording for you to mix. Fully detailed online guidance is available, with many audio examples including downloadable files, to show you how to optimize individual instruments and vocals, how to blend groups of instruments, and how to bring everything together into a rich, commercial-sounding mix. The course includes detailed instruction on level-setting, pan, equalization, compression, reverb and effects.

Study Methods
This is the fully-assessed version of the Audio Masterclass Professional Course in Mixing. As well as detailed instruction and guidance on how to mix the songs, you will also be given mixes created by the original producers of the songs, so that you can hear exactly the standard you will be aiming for. There are also examples of mixes made by Audio Masterclass students where you can hear different interpretations, and also defects with detailed explanations and audio examples on how they can be resolved.
